JACA LOOKS TO FOLLOW PAC MAN'S LEAD IN BRINGING BACK WORLD TITLE TO THE PHILIPPINES
HIDALGO, TEXAS, November 15--- On Saturday, November 25th, the War of Mexico vs. Philippines continues when the three-time World Champion, Juan Manuel Marquez (45-3-1, Mexico City) defends his coveted WBO World Featherweight title against Jimrex Jaca (27-2-1, Cebu City, Philippines), at the Dodge Arena in Hidalgo, Texas.
Pacquiao is up first this weekend when he attempts to settle his score with Erik Morales in Las Vegas. Pacquiao has faced seven fighters from Mexico in his last eight fights --including the two he split with Morales, a dominating win over Marco Antonio Barrera and the sensational draw with Juan Manuel Marquez, who will now face yet another Filipino sensation—Jimrex Jaca.
The Marquez vs Jaca match-up is set for HBO's Boxing After Dark at 10:15 ET/PT, with Golden Boy Promotions and Romanza Productions on hand to promote.
Jaca's turn to join in on the global battle happens next weekend. Already in Texas preparing for his first World Title challenge, Jaca worked out today for the local Rio Grande Valley media and vowed to bring back the title to his home country.
"To me it is not just about winning my first world title," said Jaca, following his two hour workout. "Anytime a fighter from my home country (Philippines) is challenging for a world title, he is fighting for the entire country - not just himself. I want this title first for me, but also for my country."
As for the War of Mexico vs the Philippines, Jaca knows his history, especially recent history.
"I am very much aware of the many great fights between Mexican and Filipino fighters, especially the fights Manny (Pacquiao) has had," added Jaca.
With Marquez having fought Pacquiao to a draw, the question came up whether Jaca would consider himself a better fighter than Pacquiao, should he beat Marquez.
"I do expect to win, but in no way would it prove that I'm a better fighter than Manny," the smiling Jaca answered. "Manny is a great fighter and has proven over and over what a great fighter he is. When I beat Marquez, it will only mean that I am better than him (Marquez). I would still have a while to go to get to the same level as Manny. But a win over Marquez is a good place to start."
While a victory over Marquez would certainly vault Jaca onto the world stage, he doesn't foresee a future match with fellow Filipino, Pacquiao. "That would never happen," he flatly stated. "I consider Manny my best friend and we have our separate careers."
Being friends with Pacquiao, one would guess that Jaca has sought the Pac Man's advice on Marquez. Surprisingly, that's not the case. "I saw the fight between them, but I have never discussed my fight against Marquez with Manny or asked for his advice," Jaca noted.
"Manny is very busy with his own fight and I am very busy with mine so we just never had a chance to discuss it. I've seen all I need to see to know this is going to be a very difficult challenge. But I am well prepared to win and ready to bring home the world title."
And then, apparently it will be on to the next great battle against another Mexican warrior-- Marquez. Pacquiao just happens to be on the same side. "Yes, we will always be on the same team," Jaca concluded.
The rocky road to Marquez vs. Jaca has finally been smoothed over since it was originally scheduled and already underway for October 21 in El Paso, when days before fight night, Jaca encountered Visa issues and the main event had to be postponed.
Too bad, that **** aint happening, you guys are all hype, Pacquiao is your only hope phillippines, live with it.
