    in the uk

lets say a boxer made ?000 for a fight

how much does the manager n promoter get?

in the states you have the muhammad ali act that states that a manager cannot be your promotor, and that he cannot make more than 33%.

    standard trainer's fee is 10%.

then you've got taxes, the cost of running your training camp and travel, and sparring partners. in america you write off your expenses, and only pay taxes on actual income.

i don't know much about taxes in the UK, but i know that the country is socialist and that they are reputed to be quite high.

there are also a few other ways for fighters to make money. sponsorships are becoming pretty popular revenue streams in boxing, and are extremely popular in MMA. you may use a certain type of glove or trunks, or you may wear a hat during your post fight interview.

promotors don't make a "cut" of your purse. they pay you.

they'll deduct their expenses, which include the cost of the promotion and your purse, from the total revenue (gate, TV money, sponsorships are the big three.) then they pay taxes on their profits.

@New England.....thanks, interesting stuff and a good breakdown of where the money goes.

But the last time I looked, the UK was most definitely not a socialist nirvana and David Cameron's Conservative-led government expend a great deal of time and energy making sure that even the slightest hint of socialism is hit with a very large cricket bat. We've got several government ministers who would make George Bush II look like a flip-flopping *******!!

LOL you took the words right out of my mouth. After the USA, the UK is the furthest developed country away from socialism as you can get.

I don't think paying sparring partners is as that big a thing, i'm fairly sure only elite fighters fork out for sparring
