Anyone watch the John Murray fight just?

    Thoughts?

I thought Murray looked dead Average. I don't see him going far in the sport.

And thank God he didn't sign to fight Amir Khan.

That aside Ouzghari showed real heart staying in there and fighting till the end even though he has no power at all and must have known he was losing.

Murray didn't look great, but I think the Spaniard is one of them guys against whom it IS hard to look good (he reminded me of Junior Witter a little bit!). Having said that, Murray was lacking in plenty of areas: no head movement at all; not jabbing enough (especially on the way in); lack of lateral movement...

Still, Murray got the job done and hopefully we'll get to see him and Mitchell get it on sometime soon.

Based on that performance Murray has to improve a lot and quick. Against that kind of opposition, he can get away with walking through punches. But at World class level, he will not..

Murray is OK at European level. Once he steps to better opposition he's going to struggle. Wasn't impressed with him tonight at all. He is C level Margarito from what I seen, no head movement, stationary target, often gets tagged. I'm starting to fancy Mitchell to beat Murray right now.

Same here. Mitchell seems to be a more complete fighter than Murray. If the bout gets made, I'll be backing Mitchell to win on points.

I only saw a handful of his fights before tonight but I couldn't believe he was in the hat for a possible opponent for Amir Khan.

I mean, Khan will mess Murray up, big time.

I agree that Kevin Mitchell beats him, Kevin Mitchell is much better than John Murray IMO. Especially off tonight's performance. If Ouzghari has any kind of pop he would have done some damage.

That's a fight I look forward too, though.

i was pleasantly surprised by the Murray fight.

But then again i watched it for entertainment purposes, and that turned out to be more entertaining than watching Murray blow some random guy away in 3 rounds.

Mitchell must have been loving it watching that fight from ringside. If he's hungry he'll beat Murray by a wide UD.

Mmmm I wasn't to impressed with Murray to be honest... He took alot of punches way to many, He had very little head movement...See what I can't understand is why the hell does his trainer turn round and say "look John you have to move your head alot more because of reasons A,B,C" I just don't understand it..He goes up to fighting for a world title his 0 will go

As a fight it was great entertainment. Both guys were willing to trade and were landing some good shots. However, in respect to Murray's performance, it was far from a good display of boxing aptitude. Firstly, he lacked head movement, and was eating far too many punches for my liking. His bruised face at the end of the fight told its own story. Secondly, he doesn't use nor possess a good enough jab to set up his punches. Because of this, he bulldozes his opponents which leaves himself open to uppercuts. He is lucky the guy who he was fighting had no power or he would have hurt Murray on quite a few occasions. Finally, he just doesn't have the pop on his punches to hurt decent opponents, which is going to cost him once he steps up and fights people who are willing to walk through his shots to land their own.

If Murray struggled with the tough but limited fighter put in front of him last night, I very much doubt he has the quality to compete at world level. He just isn't as developed as he should be for a man who has had 31 pro fights.
