"there are few fights more mouth-watering than the British and Commonwealth middleweight title unification between Matthew Macklin and Darren Barker. Mick Hennessy won the purse bid to stage the bout and intends to stage it on September 5 at Alexandra Palace, North London. The old home of BBC television has staged some excellent fights over the years, this should live up to them.
However, while Hennessy won the rights for that fight, he lost out to Frank Maloney for the rights to stage the English heavyweight title fight between John McDermott and his unbeaten prospect Tyson Fury. That is due to go ahead at York Hall, Bethnal Green, on September 11. Fury is due to box at York Hall on July 18 as he goes for his seventh win as a professional, but McDermott should give us a true idea of whether the 21-year-old Fury is as good as some say."
