Gammer eased to a comfortable points win over King
Former British heavyweight champion Scott Gammer took his first steps on the road back to a title shot with a workman-like points win on Sunday.
Sheffield journeyman Paul King had stepped in as a late opponent in Neath.
Gammer won all six rounds against King, who was content to concentrate on survival at the Cwrt Herbert Centre.
Top of the card saw a thrilling Celtic light welterweight title fight, with Stuart Phillips wresting the crown from Ceri Hall on his first title defence.
Gammer, 30, suffered two withdrawals by planned opponents leading up to the Neath show.
The Pembroke Dock fighter had been due to meet Colin Kenna, but he suffered a nose injury and stand-in Franklin Egobe withdrew late Wednesday with a shoulder problem.
King, who now holds a record of 5-18-1 (1 KO) is a previous Gammer victim, having suffered a three-round knock-out to the Welshman in 2004.
Perhaps keeping that experience in mind, King back-pedalled almost from start to finish, content to keep out of trouble and occasionally catch Gammer with a long left jab.

Gammer doubled the 32-year-old up with a chunky left to the body in round two and had King wobbling when that hook connected to the head in the fourth.
A straight left in the last saw King's legs stiffen momentarily to round off a routine 60-54 win for Gammer on his first return to the ring since losing the British title to Danny Williams at the same venue in March.
"It felt okay, it felt alright in there, there was no difference in how I felt than usual," Gammer told BBC Sport Wales.
"If anything was to happen it would have been psychological because I got stopped last time but it didn't bother me at all, I wasn't thinking about it one bit.
"The performance was okay, nothing special, but the important thing is that it was six rounds in, a bit of a work-out and that's the main thing."
Gammer now hopes to fight again in September, with John McDermott the preferred opponent as that fight would double as a British title eliminator.
