Interesting match up... I think Louis has a good take... agree, or disagree he has a real sense of what he would want to do to win.

Louis was methodical cutting the ring down, we know that. Ali had a way with strong punchers, we know that as well...

It might be a bad matchup for Louis.

      He'd train up for Ali.

Tell us more of the prob Ali had with Banks, Cooper
That's actually a good point. There's little things as well like Louis, winning so much and so often might have taken Conn lightly. How is a LHW gonna beat the heavyweight phenom of the world?

Yea Conn wasn't meant to be HW champion.

"How did you expect to hold it for six months when you couldn't hold it for 13 rounds"Joe Louis to Billy Conn, after Conn said to Louis: "Joe, why didn't you let me have the title, I could have run down to the corner store and told my guys, 'hey I'm heavyweight champion of the world', then you could have won it back from me in six months."

It takes a pure halfwit to even suggest Louis could beat Clay. Joe would receive the most horrible beating in ring history. Louis is by far the most overrated heavyweight champion, all due to his longevity, which was all due to the washed up scrubs he feasted on. A great fighter is just a scrub when you catch him old enough. The few great fighters he beat were way over the hill by then. As heavyweight champions go, Louis was strictly a middle-of-the-packer.

Do you have any proof of this outrageous claim?

Louis was only marginally heavier for buddy baer who is a far bigger man and puncher than little billy.

Louis only weighed 200¾ lbs going into the Galento fight.

Besides Louis saying it, I don't think there is any other proof. I don't recall any of his handlers making this claim. Personally I think Louis just took him lightly and underestimated Conn's skill and desire.

It's a strange thing to say.

I agree about Louis underestimating Conn.

                    - -Joe said it, not I. No need to kill the messenger.

And yeah, like all heavies and indeed most fighters, Joe climbed the scales, and the first Conn fight the last time he weighed under 200.

Now tell us the elevation of U molehill.

It's an odd thing to say.
I wonder why Louis would say such nonsense.
