Holyfield. Arguably a top 5 heavyweight, definitely a top 10. The only fighter in the top 10 with 10 or more losses.

Who would of fought after the first Lewis fight, Holyfield could adapt and change his game plan 'To really push Lewis, the jabs to the chest and just overall better offense'

There was a moment in the second Lewis fight where Larry Merchant was taken back by what Holyfield was doing etc

'Holyfield for me was the complete boxer'

48 minute 25 second mark and onwards.

With Holyfield it was more because he fought until he was 49 and shot before finally retiring just before 50.

That was real close. Years earlier Holyfield would have cleaned Lewis up. This was lewis' prime, Holyfield was already past his best here, but his heart and experience carried him in fights.

What people forget is Holyfield, like Charles and Walcott, was a light heavyweight as well. He had a big head and filled into heavyweight well, but often this is overlooked. When people wanna go on about size.

Which is the same case with many of the older fighters as well. How many losses did Robinson have? He went 95-0 at one point.

Duran as well. Holyfield was just a throwback.

            A throwback to when?

            Three years earlier?

Anabolic steroids and oafish Heavyweights were brand spanking new when Holyfield commenced his career.

You make a good point, without the sauce he may not have done as well at heavyweight.

Holyfield was also a fool, as was Robinson for sticking around so long. Nobody in any era should be fighting until they're 50 or pushing 50, that's just crazy. It's a terrible medical risk. That's probably why Robinson died at only 67 of Alzheimer's Disease and we see some retired fighters slurring their words. It's sad, man. These guys need to learn to use birth control, so they don't have to pay so much child support and not fall into any other kind of debt so they don't have to keep fighting. I'm surprised Larry Holmes also stuck around as long as he did, considering all the businesses he started when he was still active. Must have wanted the spotlight and more money.

I suspect that sometimes its all about the money (having gone broke) but sometimes it is also about the loss of glory and admiration they came to enjoy.

I can't see Holmes having gone broke, there must have been something more that made him climb in the ring with Tyson.

I am not sure how Rid**** Bowe is doing today but back when he got busted for kidnapping his own family the subsequent divorce necessitated that there be an accounting of his net worth. Considering Bowe's rapid decline into an emotional abyss I was fully expecting to hear the usual tragedy, but instead it was reported that he was, at the time, worth 90 million. So maybe money just isn't enough to feel satisfied. (Wish I could confirm that first hand, LOL.)

I wonder how well Holyfield is doing today, economically, emtionally, phyically.

At the time of the Tyson fight, I heard with Holmes it was about trying to win the title back Holmes and a lot of fans felt he was robbed of on the judges' scorecards in one or some say both of the Michael Spinks fights. So the short answer would be trying to get back on top, regain the title, recapture that glory.
