Sal Sanchez vs Willie Pep/Sandy Saddler

    - -Two interesting stylistic matchups for Sal.

Pep watched the Nelson destruction to famously note he was glad Sal weren't around in Peps era.

    Watch the footage of Pep.

Do you think Sal does any better against him than some random kid you pull out of High School?

    Yeah, me neither.

Sal would look like he's fighting with a paper grocery bag pulled over his head.

Willie Pep wouldbe doing a Gene Kelly routine, while Sal would be doing "the robot" like guy who just had a stroke.

I think Head-to-Head Pep's probably the greatest Boxer of all-time. Greb, Duran, Lomachenko can all make similar claims, maybe Jofre, but Pep gets my money.

As far as Saddler is concerned, he might be a little too big and rough for Sal. I think Saddler was a good bit better than Pedroza. Does anyone know what the odds were for him and Sal? Would anyone be surprise if Sanchez were the slight underdog?

I don't doubt that a matured version of Sanchez could have beaten Saddler, but the young man we know probably wasn't ready. Without fighting a guy like Pedroza (at least once) or moving up to Jr. Lw, I dunno if he'd ever be ready.

Fighters like Pedroza and Saddler show the short-comings of the eye-test. Sal, conversely, was visually stunning, but his performances weren't consistently the dominant, soul-stealing, one-sided affairs typical of many of the champions whom he's counted amongst.

      - -By the age of his death, 23, he'd already KOed all four HOFer he faced in a 10-0 title run.

SRLeonard 3 yrs older at age 23 won his first title with a bogus Ko of Wilfredo with 15 sec left in the fight.

Mike Tyson at 23 had a similar 10-0 run, and no one ever done better age wise...NOONE!

      Dismiss at yer own risk.

Saddler was on hell of a fighter. He beat Pep numerous times after Pep had been in that horrible accident. Still it was a huge accomplishment. He beat numerous reigning and future world lightweight champions. He was ranked as one of the top 100 punchers of all time. He could and did fight dirty and got away with it. I loved watching Sanchez fight but I doubt he could defeat Saddler.

          - -Let me make the parameters more clear:

I'm talking prime pre airplane crash Pep and then >>> to prime Saddler who beat Pep the first fight.
