Interesting article on fixed fights during George Foreman's comeback

Came across this old article supposedly* written for the Miami Herald by an author named Ken Rodriguez.

*I say supposedly as it's not coming from that newspapers site but appears to be copy and pasted onto the forum I am linking to, it does appear that, per google.com, Ken Rodriguez is/was a legitimate reporter with articles on corruption in boxing

      Article is dubious to me.
E.g., cites Cooper saying before his fight with GF, pretty twins plied him with alcohol and ******* so he couldn't fight well after 3 days of partying. Like he was forced to party before the fight.

Very dubious piece, though I know how corrupt boxing is--like everything else.

        - -Reads like traipsing in a disjointed dream minefield littered with crooks, cons, jailhouse snitches, dives and made up sources.

Guy should write an incoherent acid fantasy like Alice in Wonderland and be on Jimmy Kimmel for laughs.

I remember that from back in the day Anderson was a club fighter from Hammond In when they would put shows on in the old club dimensions night club in highland Indiana.Whenever I would return to the area I would catch fights there and the Hammond civic center. The fights were tainted with mismatches and set ups .Bruce the Mouse Strauss and his friends were usually part of the opponent list.It also shows you how people take an athlete and say with his athletic skill he could be a champion boxer .Anderson had very little talent and was a natural light heavyweight and he made Gastineau look like a fool .Alonzo highsmith went 27-1 and his record is full of bum after bum with losing record.Ditto with to tall Jones.

Cooper at the time was struggling with addiction so it might have some truth.I think that was what led up to him and joe Frazier splitting.I read somewhere he’d training his butt off at Frazier’s gym and one of his old friends would show up and he would be gone for days binging on dope and alcohol.

              That's not my point.
No one forced him to do that. And just before the fight.
              His own doing

                - -Too Tall only had 10 fights with no backing behind him.

Compare to failed nfl def lineman Gerald Washington who has 1/10th the athletic ability of Too Tall. Wash gots Haymon, the biggest crook going these days.

***Edit Too Tall 6-0 5 KO record. To wit: "I've never been around so many crummy people in my life."

I am SHOCKED that there could be corruption in boxing. SHOCKED.

I don't believe the Bert Cooper story. He didn't lose because he had been plied with women and drugs before the fight, he lost because George hit him so hard it lifted him INTO THE AIR. He quit on his stool and I for one would not blame him for it.

Check out the replay at 6:10.

To tall got dropped in his first couple of fight against straight up bums the media was calling him a joke as well as sports illustrated the writing was on the wall the fist live body was going to stretch him. What could he say after struggling in fights that were virtual set ups.He knew what awaited him and quit.
