Did Ali's years of exile actually extend his dominance throughout the 70s?

I had never heard Ali's years of exile doing him good until I stumbled on this passage from the man himself from 1975:

You also got to remember I spent three and a half years in exile, when they took away my title because I wouldn’t be drafted. That’s three and a half years less of tusslin’, trainin’ and fightin’, and if not for all that rest, I don’t think I’d be in the same shape I am today. Because of my age, I don’t have all of those three and a half years coming to me, but I have some of them.
Do you agree with Ali that those years he wasn't fighting helped him in his later years?

Many people say the 2 years Michael Jordan took off from basketball for baseball helped recharge the last part of his NBA career with the Bulls.

I bet he would have traded those 3 + years of his prime for the last three of his career.

Makes sense. Look at George Foreman. No way he wins the title in the 90s if he had fought straight through.

True but would a 32 year old Ali who had fought straight through the 60's been able to have beat George Foreman in 1974 or Joe Frazier in '75?

I'm not sure it helped Mike Tyson...but it seems to have helped Tyson Fury. So I guess it's on a case by case basis.

              Absolutely.

Does anyone think that Ali of the late 60's beats Frazier? Even if he does, after how many takes?

Maybe the damage done in those years also costs him against Foreman. Maybe he gets the Quarry treatment from Norton.
