How would you have rated him among the great heavyweights of that decade and how would he have fared against them?

How would prime Holyfield done had he fought in the 70s?

A prime Holyfield would have done very well with the heavyweights in the 70s. He had great fundamentals, fast hands, great chin and was a warrior. Against a young Foreman, he would have taken him into the later rounds and beat him up the way Ali did. Against Frazier he would have boxed him well. Against Ali, that's a toss up. Out of 3 fights, Holyfield would win one. Against a prime Larry Holmes in 1978, I dont think Holyfield beats him.

I think he loses to young Foreman it never goes late.Ali Holmes would beat him .Hollyfield struggled with joe Frazier’s protege Burt Cooper and almost got knocked out.I think he does well with Norton and dangerous fights with shavers Lyle ect.But the question is juice or no juice?

- -If Mr Field actually thought he was a heavy, that's where he woulda started.
A tubby Qawi who'd been booted from LH by MSpinks put him in the hospital near death. Another struggle with a cracked out Dokes bodes ill for him against the big 4.
And did Bob Foster ever lose a LH bout? Field an easy target for a great boxer who specialized in highlight KOs.
As to this Foreman nonsense, George BTFO of him to leave him desperately hanging on George those last few rds that stopped his hwt ko streak. Post George his record is 18-10-3, 8 Ko with more title losses than wins.
Shavers and Lyle would love to get a guy who leads with his face that he later repurposed into his infamous headbutt that had folks calling him holybutt.
Might be able to cut up Quarry, but could he even beat Mac Foster who had a ferocious ko steak and flattened Liston for the count in sparring? Quarry knocked Mac out.
Must praise heaped on the 90s era, but Tyson fighting on Prozac was a shell inbetween prison stints, Big Dummy only fought Field, and Lewis fighting a diminished Field and Tyson doesn't quite match though past that 4 with Big George knocking around heavies like bowling pins, it was a stronger era with Morrison, mercer, and so many others.

- -Hard for me to post on this forum with my iPhone, so what I meant to say above is while over depth of talent was deeper in the 90s, the 90s big four don't match the 70s big four.

I know it’s not often.
With Mercer & Morrison it’s stronger.
Now with that said I agree that
Mac lee Foster who was as tough as they come probably beats Evander, and many of the guys evander beat as a light heavyweight or HW.
And Queenie knows how underrated I think Quarry was.
Here is the cannolis , George back in the day pummels Holyfield.
Now I’m a bigger fan of evander than most, because his heart and effort.
He was tailor made for George.
The way Evander used to plant his feet and square up, I think a 1972 George Foreman blows his out in 2-3, similar to Norton.
