I still see Joe Louis ranked top 5 or even top 3 ever pound for pound. That is criminally overrated as far as I'm concerned.
Many people do so out of respect or fear, but it's ridiculous to try to justify that when you've got certain ATG's across weightclasses.
I see Ali mentioned several times here. The man fought 7 HW's that could be ranked top 10(or top 20 for Norton, and Patterson was past his prime) HW's ever and beat most of them at their best. Most HW's are lucky to have one win over an ATG HW. Ali has a resume of Patterson, Liston 2x, Frazier 2x, Quarry 2x, Norton 2x, Foreman, Young, Lyle etc. Many title defenses, 3 time HW champ, did most of this after a long layoff that ruined his physical prime. This is a ridiculously stacked resume and list of accomplishments, truly a case of "too good to be true" and that's why people try to discredit him. He's the only HW that can easily be in the mix with the best pound for pound boxers ever.
Can I ask what is, in your opinion, the most overrated Mexican fighter, if you think there is some?
Mexicans does not have media or press, and historically always took more risks than fighters from other countries, thats the reason why you see Chávez with 37 years fighting with a young killer like Tzyu in prime, Morales 37 years old and fat fighting with bigger guys like Maidana and Danny García.
And for example, old Monzón could fight with Hagler but he did want that smoke.
But is Canelo, he is a very good fighter but he is overrated or he was.
Munguia is getting a lot of hype, Ryan García too.

The boxing experts in his day ranked him appropriately. They had seen the greats who came before and knew that Rocky was lower on the list.
But as time has gone on the undefeated record, ignorance of the past, and his skin color have led modern fans to rush to elevate him to a position he doesn't deserve.

OK, gracias for the answer. Agreed on Munguia, Canelo is getting better with age although I do not like him too much.

De nada.
Yeah, he is getting better and better, would be a nice fight against Danny.
Valdez was a little overrated by mexican media too but he is not famous in México , most of mexican people are most soccer fans and does not care boxing, they are casual fans and only know Canelo and Chávez JR.
