Connie Will fought in the late 1920's and in the 1930's. There is no "s" on the end of his last name. My mistake.

The newspapers used several other nicknames in addition to The Prairie Cyclone, but I cannot recall them. I might be able to check.

I thought he fought a man named Shirley, but I mis-remembered that too. The guy's name was Judy.

He had at least 78 professional fights, but verifying them all has apparently not been easy, though I have seen the newspaper articles for many of them myself. Only three bouts are presently listed on BoxRec.

He studied with the Gibbons brothers in Minnesota, finishing their course.

--- Mike was in a full stop mental breakdown then that lasted until he retired. He was no longer fully cogent of his actions and was bilked out of at least $100 million or more.

Could you be thinking of Connie Curry, bantamweight out of Sioux City, Iowa - worked as a Dempsey novelty/publicity sparing partner (Dempsey chased the little guy around the ring for the press, in anticipation of Gibbons running).

No. Connie Will (real name Conrad Willie) lived with his family in my hometown (pop. 1500) when I was a kid. He trained amateur boxers. My dad had been on his amateur boxing team. When he was 98 I interviewed him with a little cassette recorder. He was a Dempsey sparring partner for the Carpentier fight.

How do you say that out loud: "TUE 50-0"
