You can definitely discount the late 50s in this because that was one of the very weakest eras at light-heavy. The time that Charles was likely the best light-heavyweight was the years 1946 and 1947 and Johnson was just beginning his career at that point. Marshall was probably at his best middleweight and Satterfield was a fairly run of the mill contender but with big power. I'm not sure Moore, Johnson and Charles would rule any era but they'd certainly be top fighters in any era.

Yes, I knew I was forgetting someone. Bivol for sure.

It certainly could be argued that they could rule any light heavy era seen thus far.

I don't see them ruling over Spinks or Roy Jones Jr for starters. Those three are quality fighters and would likely stand up very well against the best of later generations but again there is a tendency to blow their talents out of proportion to reality. For example Harold Johnson (who I love to watch with that wonderful jab) is not superior to Virgil Hill who was a similar style of fighter and Hill was the third best light-heavyweight of the 1990s. If my life depended on choosing a light-heavyweight to fight for me I wouldn't choose a prime Johnson, Charles or Moore but Roy Jones Jr.

Deepest in talent and slab-chested is what I am after here. 70's is what I see. From Foster to Spinks was the top era.

                  I can back that position.
