    Tommy West.

I was always under the impression that **** Tiger went 1-1 with Tommy West the young african fighter. Further research has concluded that Tommy West was actually 3-0 against him and one of only two men to stop the ironed chined middleweight, the other being Bob Foster. How about that?

Tommy West apparently died shortly after the 3rd Tiger fight. Unsure if related.

Retired with a 4-1 record, 3 of the wins over Tiger. The other two fights being a 1-1 series with another young african fighter named Blackie Power, Power I believe died in the ring of their second bout.

    Interesting stuff.

How about that for a record lol.

60% of his fights vs HoFers. 100% win rate.

Would be interesting to know if he died because of the third Tiger fight or an unrelated reason.

Who knows what he could have been. 3-0 even over a green Tiger is impressive.

Yeah I'd imagine both were pretty raw at the time. I assume Tiger didnt have any am background or anything coming from Nigeria

Yeah he had a lot of loss's on the way up and was learning as a fighter.

He hit ad stride in the early 60's and that's when it all came together and he became an eliite MW one of the best that has ever lived for my money.

yeah his record is crazy. I spent some time watching that 60's era not too long ago. Must be one of, if not the, deepest MW era ever?

Definitely in the convo at least.

That's my favourite era in general.

Grew up on a lot of those tapes.

                Saw this report.

On Saturday, 4 March 1952, a high-flying Nigerian Middleweight boxer known as BLACKIE POWER attempted to win the Nigerian Midleweight Title Belt from Tommy West. Before that match, he had lost to **** Tiger by an unanimous decision of the judges in a fight which took place at Glover Memorial Hall, on January 30, 1953.

In the fight against Tommy West, Blackie Power seemed powerless against the firepower of Tommy West. he was knocked out in the second round. He never regained consciousness and was rushed to the hospital where he died.

He is the FIRST West African boxer to die in the boxing ring.

                  Nice.

This article states Tiger beat West which was said for years and years.

Crazy it turns out that he didn't beat him.

I saw that often in search - even published books on Tiger that list him as beating West.
