Thanks for the responses! I'm definitely a lot more educated on the subject now lol.

Now it seems we are evolving into $100 PPVs for the really high demand fights...

Regional promoters would pay for the Closed Circuit rights and run a "live boxing" before the main Closed Circuit bout.

Very interesting, Ray. I didn't even know this. For no closed circuit match I ever attended had a live and local portion. I can see where that would provide a great show and really get the folks up for the main.

You lived in regions where the local boxing scenes were flourishing, comparatively at least, to most areas of the northwest. I lived in stick areas with low population densities.

I have traveled north, east, south and west to see closed circuits.

How, you might ask, did I travel west when I lived on the coast of California? I did not actually go to Hawaii for the fight, but I was already living in Kailua for close to a year across the Pali from Honolulu with a gal who had to take me home to meet mom.

When the Thrilla in Manila finally arrived, nothing could keep me away from the Aloha auditorium where it was being shown on a big screen. Punk kid sweating to death with his shirt off, walking up the road in a pair of slacks to catch the bus into Honolulu.

Where did you watch that bout, Ray? Was there a local element to the show?

Luckily pay-per-view burned itself out a bit and now only the very important fights are heading there, where a few years ago just about anything was landing on PPV.

As soon as human beings realized they could get rich-it became a big thing. We used to watch those championship fights on TV for free. Human beings are like that creature in Jeepers Creepers. They can smell a money-making get-rich scheme from miles away and won't stop until they make it their own..
