Sugar ray Robinson Vs Kid gavilan was filmed.

Can anybody shed any light on who possesses the film now? I believe it was in the hands of Jimmy jacobs and Bill cayton at one time.

It's ridiculous to think that there is little to no footage of Sugar ray Robinson at welterweight available to the public. Yet there exists this gem against another ATG welterweight in kid gavilan somewhere.

It will probably never be released.. but my oh my if it was. We can dream.

Edit: Just gonna add some footage of young Robinson that I've come across:

    1. Golden gloves Robinson 1940:

    2. 1946 Robinson (bad footage)

    3. 1946 Robinson Vs cliff Beckett:

    4. 1946 Robinson Vs Tony Riccio( bad footage):

    5. 1950 Robinson Vs Bobby dykes:

    6. 1950 Robinson Vs Fusari:

    7. 1947 Robinson Vs George abrams:

    8. 1948 Robinson Vs Bernard docusen(bad footage but visible)

    9. 1950 Robinson winning middleweight title Vs gene stock:

Don't think I've ever been so disappointed in my life, how dare you tease us with that title.

If there is film of this would have been captured by a private citizen who managed sneak a camera in and film it - but just don't buy the myth of this one, why would it only be floating around in Cuba?

I have a copy of it. I got it off a private collector about 10 years ago. Boxing scribe, retired now I think.

Not that I find it hard to believe... but screenshot for supporting evidence.

Yeah I was aware that Mike had seen it, didn't know it was in Cuba though. Thankyou.

It would be incredible if you could show some evidence? Which fight do you have?

It's the first I've heard of it being in Cuba, but the film definitely does exist. While Mike Tyson was touring the hall of fame he was asked about old fight films, he responded saying that Jimmy Jacobs and Bill cayton had a magnificent film collection including Sugar Ray Robinson Vs Kid Gavilan. He went on to say that the fight was masterful (not sure if he used these words)
