Originally posted by K-DOGGDon't have video capabilities; but read a great article on Owen a while back on another website. Here's to him and all warriors who fell before their time.
British boxing writer Hugh McIlvanney wrote a great article on Johnny reprinted in "The Hardest Game". Many great stories on British fighters as well as Ali, Tyson, Leonard, Hagler, Holyfield etc...
A great book K-Dogg published in 2001 by Contemporary Books that I picked up on your side of the pond if you are interested...

Yeah, I remember that fight when it happened, and when considering the age I was at back then (a fighter actually dying as a result of a boxing match was still a relatively new thing to me back then...Willie Klassen being another one who died in the ring around that time), it's probably still one of the most tragic fights in my time as a boxing fan.
I have a really good ****zine article about that whole thing around here somewhere, and it really shows the great character Lupe Pintor showed in it...I'll have to look around for it.

And I guess I could've mentioned Kim too, but I don't know...I think I was more in acceptance to the fact that boxers could actually die in the ring by the time he died (which was two or three years after Owen, Klassen, Denny did), so that one didn't have as much "emotional shock" value to me, even though I did watch that fight live as it happened...
Always most unfortunate when something like that happens, though.

Yeah, i read one on East Side Boxing. Pretty good. I saw a TV programme on the fight a year or two back. That final knockdown is sickening. I'll never watch it again.
