If Hagler and Leonard had fought in 82?

Who do you think would have won if the two had faced in 82? I pick Leonard. Would have been great though.

I like Hagler over Leonard in 15 rounds! I prefer Haglers style over Leonards but I don't dislike Leonards style. My preference is almost always was the fighter that takes it to their opponents. They must be effective but I don't give rounds to someone who scores 12 light punches over a man landing 4 hard shots whilel pressing the action.
Multiple light punches over hard direct shots is the way amateurs have been scored for many years now. I think its wrong to credit light contact over meaningfull shots.
Theres been alot of misconceptions since Mayweather has become a defensive mover first and a minimal offensive agressor.
I believe de la Hoya and Maidana beat him if they didn't finish poorly at the end.

I think the Leonard vs Hagler was a simular senerio back then.
I do believe in the old saying that you have to "take the title" from the champ.
I don't like "checkers boxing" tap tap I prefer "chess with consequences"!!!

Hagler wins by decs or tko, Leonard at his best should weigh 155 with Hagler at
    159-60!

    Ray.

Hagler... He would have too much in the tank for leonard.. 2nd half I can see hagler taking over.. The power of hagler would slowly chip away at leonard..
Post hearns, hagler never had that extra gear of explosiveness, he had slowed to just being a plodder.. But pre-Hearns, especially 82 version would be too much for leonard

Leonard wasn't ready for Hagler in 82. He would have lost in my opinion. Hearns actually pulled out of a fight with Hagler in 82 for the same reasons. Although a broken pinkie finger was the excuse, Emanuel Stewart admitted years later it was a fabrication because Hearns wasn't ready. Leonard wasn't either and he would probably admit it.

I think it would still be hotly debated SD. Prime Leonard could fight 15 hard rounds unlike in their actual fight which Leonard struggled to make 12.

Also it would depend if Hagler stubbornly fought orthodox and gave away the first 4 rounds, he liked to switch hit so it's not out of the question he would make the same mistake. Could be crucial in a close fight as it was in 87.

Once again, you are talking a heap of bullshyt. Boxing is scored on "correct punches landed on target".. nothing whatsoever to do with how hard the fighter throws the punch. There is no "Richter Scale" in the ring for the judges to check to see how hard the punch is, each time a fighter lands a shot...

Sugar Ray Leonard was at his "Ultimate Prime" in 1982, going 15rds at a championship pace was a piece of cake to Ray Leonard. He had done it three times at the very highest level, against Benitez, Duran & Hearns. with those three legendary fighters all being at their peak. Marvin Hagler fought 15rds only twice in his career and struggled immensely. Marvin was deamed to have lost 5 of the last 6rds against both Vito Antuofermo & Roberto Duran in championship fights. Marvin won the final round against Duran to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat... IMO i do not see Marvin being able to withstand Sugar Ray Lenard in 1982 i see Leonard winning far easier than he won in 1987 when having only his first fight in 3yrs and only his second fight in 5yrs.. Sugar Ray Leonard would have dazzled Marvin Hagler with speed, ringcraft, boxing ability and class.. It would be very one-sided with Ray Leonard the victor.

...........you have your opinion I have mine, you seem to be full of ego!
Judging has changed alot over the past 60 years and more so over the past 12!
Hagler is a top five Middleweight.
Leonard is a top ten Welter.
Both highly skilled but I believe Haglers style would over ride Leonards.

                  Once again, "Made up Lies"

How the hell could Ray Leonard "Not be Ready" in 82...Leonard actually retired in 1982 due to a detached retina, having achieved, everything possible to achieve in the sport...

Can you please provide a link to Emmanuel Stewart saying it was "A fabrication" that Hearns broke his little finger?

Ray Leonard never mentioned "He wasn't ready for Hagler" when i listened to him talking for 3hrs back in 2012, in fact he told the audience about how a `detached retina` scuppered a fight with Hagler back in 82 a fight he always knew he would win.

Exaggerating immensely. The Antuofermo scoring was horrible and Hagler clearly won. The Duran scorecards were very generous towards Duran too.

Leonard didn't fight prime Hagler either and has admitted he took the fight because Hagler looked vulnerable in the Mugabe fight.
