    Ranking Ken Buchanan

Where would you rank him ....... as a defensive fighter
    ....... amongst the ATGs
    and amongst the British ATGs?

And is he the most technically sound boxer to ever come from the UK?

He probably could have been a far better defensive fighter if he had wanted to be less aggressive but for a boxer type he was aggressive and got caught up in wars. In short he didn't have the instincts to be a great defensive fighter, too much of the fighter in him.

Not sure if he is the most technically sound boxer ever from Britain but his jab is certainly a candidate for being the best.

I think with the Duran fight it was more of a case where he was dragged into a war rather then 'caught up in one'. Admittedly I need to see more fights of his but it seemed like he would rather of boxed then brawled in that fight.

But as far as boxing wise he was quite complete and if you've seen Buchanan - Laguna round 8 you can understand my reasoning behind his overlooked defensive capabillities.

Ranking wise his resume was pretty impresssive with wins over Carlos Ortiz and Jim Watt. Now I'm not saying he's a top ten ATG but how does he compare with say Lloyd Honeyghan?

Good boxer not a great fighter! He has wins over Lauguna and a very old Ortiz and his loss to Duran was no shame but his record hasn't the top tier men on it and he has 2 good wins out of 60+ bouts. To much home cooking.

ken was voted as fighter of the year prior to the Duran fight. People seem to forget that. I am not saying I agree with that award as Joe Frazier was doing so well but beating Laguna was viewed as quite the achievement at the time. He had a jab that neutralized Ismael's speed. He sought a rematch with Duran but I think if motivated Duran would have made shorter work of Ken as he was on his way up and Ken had peaked. The Ortiz win was not over a prime fighter but a unmotivated one.

Home cooking? Only 4 of his 69 fights were in Scotland and none in his hometown!

In his biggest fights he fought Laguna in San Juan, Laguna, Duran, and Ortiz in New York, Otero in Miami Beach and Toronto, Navarro in Los Angeles, Velazquez in Madrid, Ishimatsu in Tokyo, Puddu in Cagliari, Nash in Brondby, Steyn in Johannesburg, Hernandez and Ford in London, and Watt in Glasgow.

That sure doesn't sound like a fighter who feasted on home cooking.
