    How good was Samart Payakaroon?

I know he is a legendary nak muay and a great singer but how good was he in boxing. Was he a legit champion? Also which fights of his are best to watch?

He was definitely a legit champion. Beat Juan 'Kid' Meza and Lupe Pintor, two excellent champions. Had very good defense and movement, very Pernellesque, but with more power. Very good left hand. Ran into a prime rampaging Fenech though and just got annihilated. I think without Fenech on his tear, he would have stayed at the top for quite some time.

His fights with Meza and Pintor are very good. Looks great. The Meza fight is the fight right before Fenech and he was really looking pretty amazing. Incredible showing of defense, tricky movement and good offence.

I remember Fenech landing a series of body shots in the first or second round, and it just crippled Payakaroon's movement. He was bouncing around, slipping shots, moving really well, and then he gets caught with a series of massive body shots over the round, and Fenech's just going crazy, and you can see him just wilt. Beautiful body shots.

Edit: That was Fenech at his best, against what is now a very underrated fighter.

          Good stuff guys...

Its a shame that smaller foreign fighters dont get the coverage that mexico, US, UK, canada, etc fighters get....

I always like when Greeh posts about some random guy at the lower weights

These guys have amazing fights and its a shame they dont get talked about like higher weight classes do

How epic is round 12 of the Meza fight, where he slips about 10 shots in a row, like a prime Sweet Pea or Locche, then steps across, shoots in and nails Meza with a perfect straight left that drops him for the count. Amazing ending. You'd feel like a superhuman freak doing that ****.

Fenech was just a savage. Very underrated....almost forgotten great outside Ausland. Mother****in Don King, the ****, ruined him. Would have been the first ever 4 division undefeated world champion if he wasn't robbed blind in that brilliant performance against Azumah. Huge fight for him, Australian boxing....Utterly ruined him that decision. Sapped whatever passion he had for boxing dry. He was a bag of **** in literally every fight he ever had after that.

You guys really impress me with your interest and knowledge of Payakaroon who looked to be on his way to being a great fighter.

If I remember correctly he came up at the same time as another Thai Pongpan Sorphayathai who got all of the attention because he was a big puncher but that ended when Pongpan was KO'd by Meza. Payakaroon's KO wins really got my attention. He wont rank as high as Galaxy but I like it better that he fought bigger name fighters than Galaxy.

I saw a tape of Samart in Muay Thai where he nailed his opponent with a punch followed by a leg kick and the guy went down and out.
