You could say Joe Louis for the name and value, but it was a comeback for the money. I'd put his best as Archie then Jersey Joe.
yeah i think the louis win established ezzard as a big star and sorta legitimized him IMO, but yes it was an old louis,,, similar to lennox beating old holyfield and tyson,, lennox had better wins over more "prime" fighters but the name value of those holy and tyson wins gave lennox credibilty in the eyes of the casual fan..
I also think that is why wlad and vitali have a tough time crossing over and appealing to casuals,,, They never got the torch passed to them like others before them.. Came close vs lennox but not enough
lennox took it from holy, who had tyson, who had spinks, who had holmes, who had ali, who had foreman, who had frazier, who had ali, who had liston, etc
Wlad and vitali never got that torch passed and i think it hurts their legacy abit
His best win on film is the louis fight. He looked absolutely brilliant, even allowing for louis's age!
On paper I d lean towards any of the moore fights. However, I ve got a feeling that moore might have peaked at light heavyweight after those losses.
moore is such a tricky guy to evaluate.... He seemed never to have a long stretch of dominance, lost alot to the key names of the era,, and really didnt hit big til late in his career... Really had an up and down career IMO which makes him very hard to accurately assess...
I know that boxrec has him ranked #1 all time p4p, but i find him hard to judge and usually have him somewhere around 12-20
I rate charles much higher
It’s said Ezzard, learning his lesson from the first fight, would have had a better chance against Marciano in their second encounter if he hadn’t put on that extra weight in three months time, which his camp thought was needed.
Maybe Marciano II could have been his greatest victory.
