    Leonard vs Hagler

I love Hagler..but the truth is he got beat by Leonard..Leonard beat him..
Hagler simply didn't land enough punches.Leonard officially landed more
too, according to punch stats. It's all psychological...Hagler would miss punches
often times in an exagerated motion...throwing punches wide and looking
slow and out classed...Leonard knew how to do this to Hagler..he made
Hagler look worse than he was...My point is that the Leonard/Hagler fight
was always a debate...but the truth is it wasn't...Leonard won.

Yes after seeing the fight again recently, I would agree with that.

Please don't talk as if Leonard did something incredible or looked outstanding!
Fact is he waited till Haglers legs were done and then offered Marvin a decent pay day. Leonard wanted nothing to do with Hagler years earlier and for good reason. Leonard at that time wasn't exactly throwing bombs either but he got his legs in shape and was on the move throughout the bout.
In their prime I think Hagler hunts Leonard down and in their day the 15 rounder would be tuff on Leonard with Hagler stalking. Hagler had a nice double jab and that helped cutting the distance down and Hagler had all the punches like Leonard plus punched abit harder than Ray.
Theres always the debate of outscoring someone with light hearted punches while on the move as opposed to the man forcing the issue and not landing as much! I didn't pay that much attention to that fight because it was beyond their best but I did watch it. Ray was as smart outside the ring as he was inside and I do believe he's a tuff matchup for Marvin to begin with but I hated how Leonard went about his business then. It reminds me of how Mayweather & Hopkins and Calzaghe operate as far as who they fight and "when" they fight them.
I'd have to watch the bout again but I favor the guy pressing as long as he's scoring too. Theres a difference between moving and running and if I remember the fight correctly Leonard did both!
Not a big debate really, Leonard was a top tier welter and Hagler was a top tier middle. Both could compete in any era and both would be beaten in their own weight classes by the REAL Sugar Ray anyways!!!HA!!! Ray.

Never thought too highly of the fight. Ray admitted he waited until Marvin was a shell to come out of "retirement." If only he saw that as a foreshadowing when he stepped in the ring with Hector Camacho.

Yep. Leonard was a "slickmeister" in and out of the ring. Inside, he rode his bike, outside, he was a master of perfect timing for his own convenience. He admittedly rushed the first rematch to take advantage of Duran's between-fights piccadilloes. Later, he waited until Duran became long-enough of tooth, before throwing a bone at him - Leonard/Duran III...

And, what in god's name was Hagler doing dancing around the ring right after the fight? That blew my mind when it was "live" and it always has since. Like he thought he really kicked Ray's ass? Ray was still standing there without a mark on him! Any way you slice it the fight was close, how was that something for Marvin to be dancing over? What a dope.

fact is haggler was running his mouth before and during the fight instead of going to work. hey he never even went to the body which was key ijn his win over hearns. I am a ray fan but I feel if marvin worked the body and kept his mouth shut during he would have handled his business.
