    Reversing Decisions

Bogus decisions happen in boxing, and often you hear of the losing corner filing for an investigation of the judges or filing a complaint with the commission.

My question is can you think of an instance where a decision has been reversed or overturned on one of these complaints for reasons besides PED use?

Im not saying that filing a complaint is worthless even if nothing official will come of it, since the losing corner is raising awareness of the robbery and letting people know they disagree with it.

Rarely is a decision overturned after the fact and after reviewing tapes of a fight. So perhaps it is a waste of time to file a complaint but like you said, at least it is on record.

We have seen outcomes changed when the outcome involves an accidental foul and tko's have been changed to NC. There are even some cases where a technical draw or a no contest has been changed to a tko. All these are due to the commission reviewing tapes, usually as a result of an official complaint.

Has there ever actually been a decision overturned though? If so, when was the last time it happened?

I don't remember a commission ever reversing a decision after a complaint and reviewing the scoring of a fight. It might have happened though, especially with all the various commissions around the world.

A lot of decisions have been changed after reviewing the scorecards however. Sometimes after the winner has left and was out celebrating his victory when he found out. Stevie Johnston left the ring a winner in his rematch with Jose Luis Castillo only to find out later Castillo retained his title via a draw. If memory serves me right Azumah Nelson had a similar thing happen after a bout with Jesse James Leija. . However few were as controversial as the Greg Haugen-Miguel Santana IBF title fight in 1988.

^I was gonna mention that. The Stevie Johnston fight was a brutal change of fate. He went from winning the title back in his hometown to losing it and never rising to the top of the lightweight heap again.

The Ike Quartey-Jose Luis Lopez and (I think) Winky Wright-Harry Simon fight results were changed while the fighters were in the locker room.

Belts have been rewarded back to the loser but I can't recall a decision being reversed. I don't think a reversal would ever happen, maybe a no contest.

Wasn't it the first Barrera-Rocky Juarez fight had been announced a draw only to reverse it to a Barrera win after a mistake on the scorecards.

Whitaker-Pestraev and Tyson-Golota were change to a no-contest, when it was originally announced they won the fight.

As opposed to decision reversals, of which none have been cited to date, scorecard corrections are relatively common. Arguably the highest profile being Duran/Leonard 1 initially announced as a split decision, later corrected to a UD

Then why didn't the one judge who screwed up the first round scoring of Pacquiao-JMM #1 get the decision reversed to a Pac win?
