I'm curious as to what your thinking is on this topic
I think his resume is certainly better and I think he's a better fighter in general.

Last time I did a HW list I had Lewis #11 or #12 could see him being in the lower end of the Top 10 though.

Be that as it may - and I don't give at rat's (bleep) one way or the other - Tyson was 'greater' that Benitez, which was/is my only point.

He's not though, that's the problem.

Tyson might have been more famous and more known but in regards to his greatness historically, Benitez is clearly greater.

How is Tyson greater than Benitez?

Benitez was winning his first world championship at an age when Tyson was pissing his pants before amateur bouts.

Pretty high skills and obviously talented. However I dislike his Methods I find him boring as hell and whatever praise he gets you must give some to his opponents because they bring the fight to him. I don't think about who is number 19 or 79 theres a number one and that makes every one else less!
His biggest win was as a kid over a fading Champion!!! Not that big a deal!

You think Spinks has a better resume compared to Lewis having Tyson, Holyfield, McCall, Rahman, Tua, Botha, Vitali, Grant, Briggs, Golota, and it's not just the wins themselves but they way he won, in most of those fights he destroyed his opponents.

How many heavies would you have in your top 50 all time list?

I find myself disagreeing with you again. Tyson absolutely dominated his division for a good 3 years, whereas Benitez had a couple good fights but didn't dominate any division and lost the biggest fight of his life to Leonard.

Yes Tyson lost to Holyfield and Lewis but people tend to forget, that in the late 80s, when he was fully primed, he beat every major hevayweight at the time. He made a mockery of Spinks and Holmes.

I don't have any outside of Ali and Louis.

That resume you just provided for Lewis is not very impressive as far as I'm concerned. Certainly not better than Spinks' for example.

Spinks wouldn't be too high on my list either though for what it's worth. I do think he's an ATG though.

I'm one that rates Mike Tyson higher than most. I think his resume is underrated he did a lot of good work during his first reign against top, solid fighters. His era was weak though.

Benitez, like quite a few early starters burnt himself out quickly but what he did in a short space of time was ATG calibur IMO. His win over Cervantes is up there with the best wins ever.

His level of opposition was a lot higher than Tyson's. I don't think there's any shame at all in losing to a prime Leonard. There's only one man they didn't and he still went 1-1.
