    Trivia

    Who am I?
I could punch. Some guy knocked me down 3 times in the last 2 rounds in a fight which changed my career.
When I touched the touch of sleep, he went to sleep.

Was Mesi any good? The only names I recognize on his record are an old Bert Cooper, David Izon, Monte Barrett and Vassiliy Jirov. 36-0 with 29 knockouts doesn't sound too bad though.

Not bad at all, heavy handed crowd pleaser, was in up to his neck vs Jirov, and despite taking the dc, was found to have an aquired brain injury, and his licence was revoked on appeal.
Shame because not, could have been, but imo, would have been a contender.
Reminded me, a little of George Chuvalo, but without the granite head.

Didn't he fight on HBO at least once or twice? I thought I remembered seeing ads for his fights on that channel in the late '90s.

Not sure, but i'd have thought, as a hw prospect from New York, he'd have been a regular on HBO.. Mesi appeared on the scene around about the turn of the millenium. Made an immediate splash by fighting every fringe contender he could get his hands on, and stopped most of them too. One fight i do remember being televised, was a points win over Monte Barrett, but i never got to see it. Believe he sought a career in politics after his injury, and to the best of my knowledge, is now the ********ic party candidate for Tonawanda, New York.

I worked a corner against Messi. I showed my guy 2 things to do to Messi before the bout, I knew the guy but never had worked with him. He had Messi blackeyed and bloody liped from the first thing that I showed my guy but he would never follow up. Anyway, Messi was a class act before and after the bout............. Rockin'
