The story about the Moore fight is true; at least, I read it years ago in an interview with D'Amato. He believed that he could study Moore's style and train a guy to beat it, provided that the guy was a good enough athelete. Jim jacobs was considered the best handball player in the world at the time and was a boxing fan, so he was the guy. I think the reason it never happened is that Jacobs came to his senses.
By the way, Jim Jacobs was born and raise in the part of LA that is now considered Watts, if my memory is correct, though it might have been a bit north, in South-Central.
