Surprised how Jack Dempsey footwork coordination and speed it's underrated.

As I've stated before on this forum,when I met Dempsey there was nothing average sized about him! He had large thick hands and his shoulders were broad!! I think he was about 68yrs old then and there was nothing meek or timid about the guy!! I remembered the story about two guys trying to rob him as he hailed a cab in New York! The cops were called and when they got there one guy was unconscience on the curb and witnesses said the other one ran away when Jack started to go after him!!!! He was close to 80 yrs old I believe!
He fought at 6' and weighed 180 to 190 at different times but this man was the BIGGEST 6' 190 (he weighed about 215lbs when I met him) I'd ever seen, and I could tell what this man was all about by shaking his hand!!! Ray

dempsy was a mf. that fight with the tall guy who he got the title from was the way for a short dog to get a tall guy. didn't just eat punches on the way in but attacked n dug in using his footwork. basic? the idea may be basic but the execution is not something everyone can do. the heavyweight landscape is a clear example of how most fighters cannot execute this. then theres the legent of the firpo fight anyone cracked around like that who can come back and flatten his opponent is a bad mf if u ax me.

Im pretty big on Dempsey but i gotta say the Firpo fight is over rated imo

No, not really. You see guys slip, then punch, or bob/weave, then punch. But to throw the punch with the move, you have to really understand how your weight moves.

The only one I've seen is Mike Tyson. Not surprising since his style was patterned after Dempsey's.

i met dempsey a few times at his resturant and agree with all mr. corso says - he was like a lion with big strong hands. after shaking his hand and seeing his films i could understand how nothing would surprise me about him.
