    100 Greatest Fights

Just bought Boxing Monthly's special edition ****zine "100 Greatest Fighters Of All Time"
Not in agreement with their list tbh although they are ALL Great fights.

Got me wondering what u gents have as your top fights? Not asking for your top 100 lol but what ever u can be bothered to post, top 10's or something would be fine.

I have, and im sure u all do too, personal favourites that i don't consider GREAT fights or at least THAT great but love them for other reasons such as Miguel Cotto vs Margarito 2 where my favourite fighter of recent years got revenge over that scumbag and also fights where u may have won big money ect but for this thread id like to hear your GREATEST FIGHTS as opposed to your favourite ones if that makes sense!

I'll do a top 15 to get it going:
Roberto Duran vs Sugar Ray Leonard 1
Evander Holyfield vs Rid**** Bowe 1
    Ali vs Frazier 3
Diego Corrales vs Jose luis Castillo 1
Evander Holyfield vs Dwight Qawi 1
    Ali vs Frazier 1
Aaron Pryor vs Alexis Arguello 1
Marco Antonio Barrera vs Juan Manuel Marquez
Erik Morales vs Marco Antonio Barrera 1
    Arturo Gatti vs Wilson Rodriguez
    Micky Ward vs Emanuel Augustus
Archie Moore vs Yvon Durelle 1
Israel Vazquez vs Rafael Marquez 3
    Wilfredo Gomez vs Lupe Pintor
    James Toney vs Vassily Jirov

That was actually a lot harder than i thought!

This isn't a properly compiled top 10 list, literally just writing it off the top of my head now. In no particular order...

      - Gatti vs. Ward I
      - Corrales vs. Castillo I
      - Moore vs. Durelle I
      - Ali vs. Frazier III
      - Vazquez vs. Marquez III
      - Barrera vs. Morales I
      - Joe Louis vs. Billy Conn I
      - Trinidad vs. Vargas
      - Marquez vs. Pacquiao I
      - Tatsuyoshi vs. Singwancha

I always find it strange when people include Ali Frazier III but not Ali Frazier I which I always preferred

They're both great fights. Perhaps it's the importance of the third bout and the manner in which it ended that makes it greater to some people. There's something very romantic about how they both took so much out of each other that each of them were at breaking point and wanted to quit, and that Frazier's guys just so happened to get there a fraction ahead of Ali's to call it off.

Having been around for both fights I can tell you that the importance of the first fight far exceeded the third one. Having two undefeated heavyweight champions fighting close to their primes in one of the most anticipated matches ever is hard to top.

Thanks for sharing, Scott. I wasn't around for either, so I was just basing that on hearsay. I always imagined that the third fight was much more anticipated than the first since both fighters each held a win over the other and it was the chance for either fighter to gain the last big victory of their career and have their final moment in the sun.

The build up for their first fight was incredible. There was a major buzz about it that I've never seen again. And the media then was nothing like it is now. The only fight I can compare it to was Duran-Leonard I, which was huge. I'll always wonder if it had been made a couple of years ago, how Mayweather-Pacquiao would compare. The 3rd Ali-Frazier fight was big, but mostly to serious boxing and Ali fans. I thought the build up for Ali-Frazier II and Ali-Foreman was actually bigger.

Haven't there been some compilation DVDs released called Greatest Fights or Fantastic Fights of the Century or something like that? I thought I saw those before in supermarkets, FYE and Amazon.
