I think what separated Tyson from his prime to starting to deteriorate was the slippage in defensive skills. Was Mike the best ever defensively NO but his defence was very, very good in his prime and a important part of his overall package just not up there with the skills of pep and loche.

It takes more skill being as aggressive as he was without getting hit.Keep in mind he was dodging punches from guys who were as big as 6'5 and very long reaches.pep still got hit often in clinches he would frequently grab the arm of his opponet and take shots, not dangerous ones and often spin his opponets around and run away...this to me is not better or more impressive defense than Tyson had,the skill levels aren't even close there on pure ability to avoid a punch.Ironically I see everyone mentioning pep who hit usually with a few punches and immediately clinched....doesn't this sound like Wlad Klitchko???Somehow I think not everyone knows but they gave Wlad props on this thread.....

The Best Defense is a strong Offense!
This is true more times than not, people like Mayweather, J. Young, Occasio
were deemed boring because their defense was first and foremost and it rarely opened offensive punching. Where as Pete made defensive moves and counter punched off them. Pep did move laterial but it was to set up the distance he needed to avoid then attack.
Tyson did have excellant body & head movement but that was in his earlier years against lesser talents. His style was extremely taxing to maintain as he matured and added weight.
I'll go with Pep, he did some amazing things in the ring and he was a handfull too.
To loose 11 and get stopped 6 times out of 241........is insane!

        Ray.

Only an idiot would say that. And you just did. You don't know anything about boxing, and everybody here realizes that but you.

Muhammad Ali of the 1960's, Pep, Locche, Benitez, among many others. They were fighting top class fighters and their defense was great for more than three rounds.

How is the view with your head so far up Tyson's a$$?

Ali was hit all time ,that's the problem you watch high light clips because you're a casual fan you don't know any better....even in the 60's he was constantly being hit by even guys like little slow Folley who out punched him the first 2 rounds..pep had wlad klitchko same style defense which was good but not as impressive to the point Dundee is even on record saying his boxing defense was poor...remember you are a casual fan and the fact you said Ali proves that......

Tysons prime his matches only lasted on average 3/4 rounds where in your head in that little brain does that reflect his defense as poor or inferior......

Dundee is on record? Please produce. Sounds like one of those Sonnyboy claims. Young Ali got hit less than Tyson. He didn't take any solid shots from guys he was carrying like Folley.

You are all smoke and mirrors. You call me a casual fan , yet you haven't seen a fraction of what I have. I'd bet on that.

Listen clown, you look at boxing as a simple math equation you can solve with boxrec. Nobody here respects you. If I'm wrong then they should speak up.

Dundee has stated in interviews about ali taking punishment because he had POOR boxing mechanics...Tyson rarly got hit...again only a casual fan would say 60's ali got hit less he was constantly getting hit mainly by jabs like the one cooper hit him him with to set up the left hook that planted Ali.Boxing is about math as is any sport you idiot that's what they use to gauge who can do what and when to make the odds of a spread or favorite. they do this by ADDING statistics and percentages for the Bookies/vegas/sports bettors..etc.......yea sure you know it all.....:wank:
