The old "championship rounds" (11 to 15) are a thing of the past but it sure seperated the good from the better! Ray
He said screw it in the 12th and went for a great round knowing he wasn't gonna lose as long as he didn't get KO'd.

If fights today were more exciting, like some of the older fights I've seen, I would miss it. But most fights I see these days feel long enough. Even if they were just 10 rounds, I wouldn't complain, unless you're talking about a Gatti style toe to toe fighter or something like Rodriguez-Wolak. I say keep them shorter and just air more fights on TV.

I miss them in the sense that I believe they should be the way it is for legit title fights. But, there has been many a Winky Wright fight where after the final bell rang I thought "Thank god there aren't three more rounds of that!"

I'm actually relieved they don't go 15 anymore, as going the distance (12) is too long for me. Call me crazy, but I'd rather see a fight end in a stoppage. In sports, I prefer to see "the big ****." (homerun, touchdown). Ideally, after six rounds, I'm ready to see someone knocked on his arse.

Yes and No. I think 15 rounds is obviously the ultimate test to show us who the better fighter is. But when I imagine some boring fights going 3 more rounds it makes me want to stick with the 12 rounds.

I'll offer last weeks Vazquez-Gesta fight as Exhibit A.

Easy. Just make one of the fighters, Louis (your fave), Tyson or Foreman... Ironically enough, Foreman was at the wrong end of not reaching the "championship rounds" with Ali.

Louis had a few championship fights that went past 12. Hell, even Tyson had a couple that went 12.

Yeah and no really, sometimes u are left after 12 hard fought exciting but inconclusive rounds wanting MORE Ie, Pacquaio vs Marquez 2 or Morales vs Barrera ..... Then again there are some fights ive watched recently that went 12 where i thought thank god thats over io couldnt take another 3 rounds of that rubbish! Would half of todays fighters even manage 15!?? Would they drop their pace to slug like levels?? Ultimately i understand why its gone and im ok with it but yeah there are certainly times u wish they still did it

I have a rather low tolerance level for yawners and can usually confirm my su****ion within 5 rounds. Once confirmed, I start channel-surfin' for more exciting fare, as feeling each other out at this point is better suited for a chess, not boxing match.

                      Pre-fight warning signals:
                      • Both men have less that 50% KO's on their resumé.
                      • Both men are defensive counterpunchers.
                      • Both men claim stamina as their best attribute.
                      • One's orthodox, the other's southpaw.*

*Is it me, or do most fights today feature opponents of opposite stances?
