        Louis overall IMO.

He's involved in basically every topic.

        Robberies (JJW).
        Great Knockouts and sheer power.
Comebacks (Both in the ring and from retirement)
Technical Aspects of the sport, he's always brought up.
        Interesting personal life.
        #1 Heavyweight debate.
        Top 10 P4P debate.
H2H match-ups, people like to have him battle modern fighters.
Most socially important matches - vs Schmeling.
Usually regarded as somewhere around the point that boxing became significantly more like the modern game.
First boxer to be supported by both whites and blacks.

        the list goes on.

as barnburner points out joe louis is mentioned quite a bit and so he should
he fought the best of his era and dominated. He has physical skills that have people not only debating his prowness as a heavyweight but that of a p4p great as he deserves mention for perhaps being the greatest puncher of alltime. He had fans of all races because of his ability and sportsmanship. One of the first books I have read on boxing was his biography. I have since read a book that not only chonicles him but max shemling as well. He is with out a doubt a great fighter.
