    Question About Leonard-Hearns 2

Do you think that Tommy won clearly, or did you, like me, see it as a very competitive fight with lots of close rounds, so many that you don't have a problem with it being a draw? I scored it 113-112 for Hearns, but aside from those two rounds where he scored knockdowns, I really didn't see many that weren't close enough to go to Ray. There was 1 round that I scored for Hearns that I remember being close enough to go either way, and there was another round that I scored even that I thought was really close, too. So even though I had Hearns winning, I can't really complain.

Yes I think he should have gotten the decision, but do I think it was a clear victory or even a robbery like some people claim? No. Absolutley not.

What do you think? Poll coming.

I feel exactly the way you do. I felt Hearns edged it, but he certainly didn't dominate.....and it was Ray who closed big.

I felt the draw was a fair result.

But I did watch it again last year and scored it by a point to Hearns.

To be fair, neither beat the other: Most rounds were very close and both Hearn's knockdown rounds were offset by Leonard's huge rounds in the 5th and 12th rounds.

I thought Tommy's first knockdown could have been ruled a slip. It looked to me like both guys connected but Ray came off worse.....therefore Ray retreated hurt for a few seconds; but went to the canvas after Tommy's follow up right hand whisped over his head. I didn't feel that the punch actually scored/landed.

However, the second knockdown was savage! Its amazing that Ray got up!!

I had Hearns winning by a very slight margin as well, so a draw is OK in my book.

Certainly not the robbery that the press made it out to be.

It was clearly wrong to hand Tommy a loss to Ray in that fight but I have seen worse decisions. Its just kinda sad because if they did give it to Tommy there may have been more of a chance they'd have had a 3rd bout. Leonard and Hearns should have been a trilogy, no doubt!!

Tommy deserved the decision, but it wouldn't make my all time worst list. I thought giving Ray a 10-8 round in the 12th was wrong because Hearns dominated the first two minutes.

I agree with all stated. I think Tommy earned the win by scoring the knockdowns (which made the difference on my card) but outside of those two rounds and one or two more, I think you would be hard pressed to find any that he won clearly. Leonard, despite looking uncomfortable and aukward at times, was still managing to keep them close, and managing to win them by throwing more combinations. I think Mastrangelo actually had Ray winning. Which I don't agree with, but I can understand it, because at least half the rounds were very competitive and close. And I agree that it would have been very nice to see them have a trilogy. It would have been more meaningful, and interesting, than the rubber match with Duran.
