Hey how underated is Michael Dokes?

The man was by no means an ATG but he was a very good amateur and was in some very entertaining fights as a pro, good skills fast hands and an aggressive fighting style but he was not consistent in his ring performances because he was also fighting the "Coke" monster (and that is nothing nice, i know all about the battle being a rich kid from Santa Barbara). hell if he was fighting today in his prime not many of todays heavys could beat him.

He was knocked out by most of the great heavyweights he fought. (Holyfield, Ruddock). Basically a good fighter in a very good era. Would have more success today for sure

I always thought Dokes was the best prospect of the early 80's. He should have accomplished so much more than he did. Dokes was well past his prime when he fought Dokes and Ruddock. If I'm not mistaken, Dokes is still in prison.

Dokes was probably the fastest heavy in the early 80's, or at least him and Page were.He never had the skills that Page had, but he definitely had the will and desire that Page lacked. He was also lucky that Don King was in his corner, or he may have had a long wait for his title shot. It's a testament to his courage that he came back after two years of ******* abuse, and made it back to the top ten, but his lack of punching power was evident from early in his career. When he started to get some pop in his punches, ******* took over.
