Head to head matches at mw

Have a go at these three fights.

    Hearns vs LaMotta
    Hearns vs Graziano
    Toney vs Benvenuti

Do us all a favor and don't just pick names and winners out your arse. Give reasons as to why you think they would win. Make it detailed and interesting. As Barnburner said lets try to get some good discussion going.

I'll start with Hearns vs LaMotta.

Hearns using his height and reach will outbox LaMotta from the get-go as he did to all of his opponents, and as anyone with a brain should anticipate, possibly surprising him and motioning him into retreating early on. It would be in LaMotta's best interests to start working the body early on and I believe he should do this on the occasions he manages to get inside.

I think the turning point would be about round 9, when body shots begin to take their toll. I am ruling out a cut stoppage which is very plausible in this match-up and could happen. LaMotta will have taken quite a beating at this point. However LaMotta had under-rated defense and an ability to roll with punches very well. I believe LaMotta will get inside at a higher frequency through these later rounds. Using his jab which was a very good tool for him in getting inside, he will begin to land more and more and rounds 9-12 will be close.

In a 12 round fight Hearns breezes this 9-3 type decision. In a 15 round fight however, I think LaMotta might just be able to snatch the victory through TKO. More due to Hearns exerting himself too much and tiringand LaMotta's consistent body attack than a chin or power punch. I don't think it's out of the question Hearns could hang on either.

    Good match-up.

    Hearns vs Graziano.

Hearns KO4. Graziano could hit and that was basically it. Although he would try and attack Hearns a bit early on. He didn't have the chin or skill of Marvin Hagler and would take too many shots coming in making it difficult to land his hard right. Resulting in him being KO'd early. Easy win for Hearns.

Basically look how easily Robinson could dispatch Graziano and look how hard a time he had with LaMotta.

In a 15 round fight at middleweight, much as I love Hearns, I think I'd pick LaMotta to get to him.
