At the time Arguello was my dad's favorite fighter and Sanchez was mine. We argued this one to death. Dad always maintained that Arguellos power and poise would win and I always thought Sanchez was the perfect fighter to take advantage of Arguellos lack of speed both hand and especially foot speed.

Yeah, I think the argument to be made was that if you couldn't out-run Arguello, you had to fight fire with fire.

Ultimately, that is what unseated him. Pryor at 140 pounds was a fabulous fighter. Imperfect, but really ferocious. I'm not saying that his youth and questionable practices weren't the deciding factor, but it was alsothe first time Arguello met a guy his size who would slug it out with him.

Sanchez didn't have Pryor's size and physicality, but he compensated by being a smoother, more refined fighter. Therorectically, he could slip past Arguello's offense and smother him on the inside.

It's just hard to know how Sal would handle the size and power. (Again, another reason we really needed to see a fight or two with Pedroza to accurately gauge Sal's greatness). There was more than "just four pounds" here. That's a lot of weight at that size, and let's not pretend Arguello would enter the ring anywhere close to 130.

Sanchez was probably too willing to take punches, and too incapable of moving Arguello backwards to take this one. A guy like Arguello is exactly the example of why Boxing isn't about being fast. Sure, that's great in the NBA or as a Receiver in Football, but it has its limitations in Boxing - or at least it did.
