Maitland ---- Les Darcy #1..... Frank Paddy Slavin #2....... Name one Maitland sized Town (say between 3000 and 6000, Maitlands approx population before the 30's) that can match that for a record. And I think Darcy should be on that list. If Australia isn't one of the all time top 5 greatest Boxing countries historically, I rate him a lot higher than I do say, Kid Gavilan, or even Ortiz..... but no matter.

Man, that's a very cool comparison, 10 times bigger but at least twice as many greats. I must mention that Maitland today is many many times bigger than it was in Darcy's time. Thanks for that list...... we should do a thread on great boxing towns, a great subject. I don't know the name of the place, but Jose Torres and Carlos Ortiz come from a town, but I have no idea about it's population. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a poster on here from that very town.
