Why was nigel benn vs RJJ never made

Looking back, it seems like benn really wanted the fight. But it never happened. Why not? As a RJJ fan it seems to me like he flat out ducked benn. That would've been a great fight. All those bums RJJ fought, he couldn't make room for the brit?

I don't know the specifics, but it's alwaysdifficult to arrange a fight when you have two rivals competing on different markets. Both made a truckload of cash so there was little financial to gain. I guess the fighters should have wanted it more ie wanting to prove themselves against the best.

So I guess RJJ didn't want to fight the best i.e. Benn?

Pretty much. At least he only fought one top 3 fighter and that was Toney.

          If they were to fight.

          Who would've been your pick?

I'm still on the fence on who I would pick.

I like Benn, but Roy would probably win.

Surely Benn would have a punchers chance and Roy was probably chinny also back then. But all things considered Roy was just to fast and to talented to be denied in this match-up. It's very much a shame that Jones didn't fight better opposition BITD. I wonder if he has any regrets about that bit today.

                  Surely he has his regrets.

He's not like Floyd that fights solely for money.

I believe Roy fought for legacy as well.

I think after he saw what happened to McClellan -- he was even less inclined to pick 'hard' fights. He beats them all, just a shame I didn't get to see it.

God knows what he's fighting for today.
