    Amazing Feat From Roberto Duran.

    I really do find it amazing that Roberto Duran fought in the 1960's, 1970's, 1980's, 1990's & in the 2000 era.

    Thats 4 decades. He fought in the same era as a prime Muhammad Ali, & prime 2001 Floyd Mayweather.

    Makes Duran all the more special, what a throwback fighter.

    Duran started fighting by bashing up American GI's on Panama Dock when he was just 14 years old. At 17 he turned pro and actually fought in five decades during a 33 year career.
    His last fight was in 2001 and had he not injured his back in a car crash that year, had no intentions of quitting. To me, an ATG is someone who could cut it in any era and Duran is one of the finest examples you'll get. Remarkable fighter!

      That has more to do with chance than accomplishment. It's like George Brett winning a batting title in three decades. When you start at the tail end of one and retire at the very start of another, of course things like that will happen because the numbers are arbitrary. Total years is all the matters. After the 80s Duran's career was a sad farce.

        To go 12 rounds at 50 years old can't be scoffed at, but yes, Duran only fought on instinct throughout the 90's.

          It is incredible when you look at it like that,although i only look at prime or close too prime Duran when assessing his ATG standing,but no doubt the fact that he fought in 5 different decades says a lot about the type of guy he is

            The most impressive was his win over Iran Barkley and capturing the middleweight title at age 38, Barkley had just knock out Hearns before that.

            Duran was also robbed against Camacho in 1996 when he was 45, the macho man would then go on to stop a comebacking Sugar Ray Leonard!

              Add in the fact he beat Jorge Fernando Castro at 46? when Castro was in the top 5 at MW.
              He also beat Ernesto Marcel when he was a teenager, Marcel would go on to become a featherweight champ and beat Alexis Arguello.

              so hes not only been fighting for that long, he beat top opponents for about 4 decades.
