    Rating Juan Manuel Marquez historically

I know this seems like a kneejerk reaction to a fight, but Marquez has more in his rearview than he does ahead of him. And he's my favorite fighter and he just looked excellent in a stoppage against Katsidis. And I'd rather have all your opinions over Non-Stop Ballsucking any day of the week. Where does he belong in history at the featherweight, superfeatherweight and lightweight level? I rate him above Barrera and Morales on skills, longevity and incredible, legendary recuperative powers (although Morales has a better resume), but I'm not quite sure where to put JMM only because he is my favorite fighter and I don't know how much of my ranking is due to bias.

p4p great fighter. Not really great in a single weight division however (not unless he actually won the Pacquiao fights, which he should have). Top 20 FW is possible (had he actually beat John anyways). Top 20 SFW sure, cuz it's a bogus division. Top 20 LW? No chance in hell. Maybe top 50.

Marquez is an ATG but where its hard for me to say because of the way he was handled in his earlier years. I think if he had been with Bob Arum he very well couldve been the man and made a lot more money, but his misguided team decided to go to India and places like that for less money. For years I heard he was the truth but his team was so false meaning ****ing up his career. After I got a chance to really see him in action I fell in Love because he is a warrior that want quit. I really admire his counter punching and adaptability. Hes older and still to this day he will mix it up with his oipponent. Some like Floyd will take the safe road and thats his choice but Marquez and Pacquaio not only love to fight they also put on a show. They give the crowd an action packed fight until its over and no matter who it is. Marquez is better than Pac in my opionion because he can make adjustment and his defense can change in the middle of a fight. His heart is made of stone cold Diamond. I atleast rate him in the top 100 not to be biased but the 30-60 had so pure ole dee monster that could fight.

The best compliment you can pay to Marquez is this. PAC is a monster and has been for the last three years but every since he has became the P4P #1 HE HAS WANTED NOTHING TO DO WITH MARQUEZ. The ranking went something like this Pac
      Marquez
      Mosley
      Hopkins

Two of these guys were lantantlly ducked by Pacquaio. I call marquez a duck because eventhough they fought twice, If you and the number two pound for pound are the same size and p4p 1 and 2 then there is no reason not to fight. Even now Pac say he wants Marquez to weight in at 147 dam Pac you weighted 144 your last fight and you had to eat eights meals a day to get there. Stop ducking and fight Marquez. Win lose or draw Marquez in my book is right behind these greats.

      Whitaker
      Armstron
      Leonard
      Hearns
      Mayweather
      Pep---------------Marquez

Hes ahead of DELAHOYA, cHAVEZ, mORRALES, bARRERA AND OTHER. i DONT KNOW WHERE THAT NUMBER IS BUT HE IS GREAT.

        De La Hoya, sure.
        Barrera, ok.
Morales? If you say so. (Not in my opinion)
Chavez? As in Julio Cesar Sr?

He also rates behind Ricardo Lopez and Salvador Sanchez.

He's better than MAB, but Morales is better and Morales' win against Poochiao is better than JMM's fights against Poochiao.

Marquez is and always has been a better fighter than Barrera & Morales as well as Hamed.. H2H he would always beat those 3 fighters because he is better skilled than them all, JMM is one of the best counter-punchers of the last 50yrs and his place in the Hall of Fame is assured, yet i rate Pacquiao superior to him in those weight classes.

Wasn't he a Top Rank fighter back then? I'm pretty sure he was a Top Rank fighter for most of his career. It wasn't until after the first Pac fight, and then a couple after that like the John fight etc that he changed when his contract ran out to GBP. He was definitely a Top Rank fighter though.

As for his career standing, I don't know. Hard to say. He's still probably got one or two big fights left. He's certainly on the downslide though. He doesn't look nearly as good as he was years ago.

But, I think his resume is much better than people give him credit for. If you actually check out who he has beaten, it doesn't have the big names like Barrera, Morales in it, but it has a lot of solid world champs. A lot more than most think anyway. I think his resume now rivals, though not necessarily is better than, that of Morales/Barrera etc. Morales has the Pac win, and they both have each other, but Marquez has the Barrera win when he was still at least a top world champ and many other big wins. Listing only the world champs, or interim champ for Katsidis, he has beaten (or drawn with in the case of Pac) I can think of; Gervacio, Sanchez, Kotey, Pacquiao, Peden, Gainer, Medina, Casamayor, Diaz, Katsidis, Barrera, Juarez (he was good enough to put him in here as a big name though he never actually got the championship title), Salido, Jandaeng (who just won some WBC title) plus having fought Mayweather, Pac, John, Norwood in losing bouts that all could be construed very easily as non losing except in the case of Mayweather. That's quite a lot of champions and big names in there. That's without the top contenders/title challengers he fought too, like the Polo's, Licona's, Jaca's, Gamboa's etc.
