of all of the pure offensive fighters at HW frazier was one of the most dynamic

he hit guys when they didnt see it coming
hit them after he made them miss
he would wear them down before going for a KO

      etc

shavers was the bigger man and in my opinion the much harder one punch puncher if you're just talking about hitting a heavybag
      but that's not boxing

powerpunching is about landing power shots
and frazier's one of the best ever at that

if you want to value a power puncher
      KO percentage is good

but its almost entirely dependent on who the opponents were

tyrone brunson has a better KO percentage than these men
and i've seen him fight in person
he's just not a tremendous puncher in the least
in fact he's about average in terms of power for a guy at the top of the sport (which he is not)

as many have said (the learn-ed posters, mind you)
a great measuring stick for punching power is inquiry among common opponents

shavers is widely considered the hardest puncher ever because he fought guys from many eras
and most of htem called hiimt he hardest puncher they'd ever facec (ali, holmes, real chin havin badass dudes who fought him at or near their primes)

True, but quarry KO'd shavers where as he couldn't ko frazier. Also Ali didn't drop Frazier but almost dropped shavers in the last 30 seconds of their fight.
I also believe standers stopped shavers, while Frazier stopped standers.
I do think 71' Ali stops shavers if he comes out with the flurries he did in the first fight.

Shavers was a handful technically, but lacked a good chin and often lacked stamina. He went 10 rounds of constant punching against Tiger Williams, and did not tire, he showed amazing stamina in that fight despite being almost as muscular as he was against Holmes the first time! He took Lyle's bombs very well early on, and dominated the early going before pooping out in round 4 and just falling over in 5. Showed a good chin here. I would say that as long as he can see the shot, he is fine. It was the quick guys that got him out.

He got caught against Quarry, simple as that. I would pick Earnie 5 out of 7 against Quarry, that was one of the two. It happens. Earnie came out wild looking to end it, and dramatically underestimated Quarry. He never landed.

Earnie hit much harder I would say.

Joe had plenty of power, on par with Tyson, Ruddock, Lewis for sure. Remember what he did to Chuvalo? Chuvalo was physically more impressive than even Tyson prime to prime. Frazier broke his orbital with one left hook. Viscous power. If I am not mistaken, noone from Tyson's era Mike included can boast of that.

I agree with most of what you said but Quarry would've always beat shavers... Shavers did land some punches on quarry and quarry just shook them off.. I can see any other scenerio then quarry countering shavers and stopping him

By the way my argument was for shavers hitting harder. Frazier was just a better fighter. That's why he beat quarry.

I'd say Shavers had a very good left hook/hand and a much better right hand than Frazier, but I think Frazier had the best left hook out of everyone. His left hook was just amazing.

Shavers punched harder than Frazier with both hands. However if you are comparing the skills of each it isn't even close. Frazier was a better heavyweight than Shavers.

Frazier, for brute strength, one-punch power was not the elite like the Foremans and Shavers, imo. On a one to ten scale, he wasn't scoring a 9 or 10 but he had the abilitity to beat you with sevens all night long, if necessary. Hard hitter, but a tier underneath the hardest for just brute strength.

Agreed with SNV's post. While I don't think Frazier possibly hit on Shavers' bizarre level, he was a brutal puncher in his own right, & gets too much stick as a one-handed fighter. Frazier pounded the ribs from both sides, ask any of his rivals. They didn't come away just hurting on one flank.

Frazier hurt every man he ever hit. Isn't that power enough?

Devastating puncher. His left hook, is one of th single most powerfull punchers in the history of boxing in my opinion. The levearge & power he got into it was incredible.
