Very tough ask, this. I class Benny Leonard as a greater Lightweight than Roberto Duran, but I feel Duran had the greater career, ultimately. Duran gets the nod over Ray Leonard, all things considered. Then, there is Willie Pep. What a dazzling career, & a truly dazzling fighter. The latter Leonard only had forty fights, & I consider that a very big mark against him here. However, put all the men in history who had roughly the same number of career bouts, & no doubt, Leonard accomplished more than any of them. It's a tall order, this list.
This is a real pickle! I will give it a shot...
1. Willie Pep 2. Benny Leonard 3. Roberto Duran 4. Ray Leonard
Difficult to be completely satisfied, no matter the order...
O.K. For a start I've never made up my mind if I Rate Pep Or Benny in front, I struggle to separate them. but my gut tells me Pep (BUT I've seen a lot more of Pep obviously) and I rate Benny and Packey McFarland ( what stats ) ahead of Duran at Lightweight ( Duran Was a real LW Ruler ) and I believe Sugar Ray LENNID the superior craftsman to Duran but only the SECOND BEST LEONARD.,,,,, so,....... 1. PEP,.....2. BENNY LEONARD,.... 3. SUGAR The SECOND and 4. DURAN DURAN,,,,,,,,,,,,,this is fun.
