    Good point.

You can say that Floyd can't take a good shot but he was actually only stopped by liston, johannson, and Ali. Lyle doesn't come close to any of these 3 in terms of skills and he certainly doesn't match ingo or liston in power.
Lyle probably doesn't match Ingo or Liston in terms of power but that's beside the point; he has the power to KO Patterson. He doesn't need to be ranked a bigger puncher than Liston or Johansson in order to be considered at having a chance of stopping Floyd.

Like I said, Lyle didn't really beat anybody with the skills or hand speed of Floyd Patterson. Lyle really looked best in losing efforts. Floyd did manage to beat Lyle, Ellis, bonavena, machen, johannson, and chuvalo. Much better wins then Lyle.
    Floyd never beat Lyle.

Lyle dropped iron chinned Foreman a couple times & looked decent vs Ali.

well, I'm not going to argue much here, but I never dismissed that Lyle couldn't KO Floyd.. because he definitely could if he gets to him inthe early rounds. I was referring to what Scott said, that Lyle hits harder then any of floyd's opponents besides Liston. which I dont agree with.

I didn't mean to say that he beat Lyle, haha. But I agree that lle looked good against foreman and Ali(both faded versions).. but he still lost both of those fight in convincing manner, and doesn't have any wins to suggest he wouldve beaten Floyd. his best work was in the early rounds. He does have a chance to finish Floyd off, but Lyle wasn't really a good finisher.. and Floyd has come off he canvas to win fights.. Lyle has a couple times.

I'll pick Patterson to win a decision, because it's likely he'll get by Lyle. Patterson might get floored early on, but like I said Lyle wasn't really a good finisher.

I never claimed you did either.

You don't have to agree with it, but Lyle certainly has a case for being the bigger puncher. They are almost identical in KO%, with Lyle having more fights and KO's. I give the slight edge of power to Ingo simply because he KO'd the better opposition.

However, as Scott was alluding to earlier, Lyle is the only man to drop a non-exhausted, iron chinned, Foreman and certainly Foreman had a better chin than anyone Ingo ever dropped.

I don't believe he lost the Ali fight in a convincing manner. It was a pretty close fight up until the stoppage. Lyle had a correct gameplan and was able to frustrate Ali for periods in the fight - for one, Lyle didn't fall for Ali's 'rope-a-dope' tactics and flail wildly while Ali leaned against the ropes.

Although he didn't fight a prime Foreman, he certainly fought a version close to his prime, and I guess you have to expound upon what you really mean by a 'faded' version of Foreman. 'Faded' to what extent?

Lyle had a few top wins, which suggest he might have a chance vs Patterson. Wins over Bonavena, Ellis, Shavers etc I feel that this approach of comparison is far too narrow. His performance vs Foreman alone suggests he could KO Patterson and we don't need to marginalise Lyle to just the wins he had. We need to assess the broader picture - including how he faired in his losses.

Lyle would get to Floyd eventually but it certainly wouldnt be the mauling like Liston gave him.

But Floyd has a chance, so its a toss up for me.

Really had to decide if I liked Patterson's overall superiority or Lyle's power against Floyd's suspect chin...I settled on Patterson, but this is like a 6/4 split. There's a decent chance that Lyle catches Floyd with a good shot on the jaw and puts him to sleep.
