Jimmy Ellis Middleweight contender to WBA heavyweight Champion

I dont think ellis is given enought credit for jumping up from middleweight to heavyweight and becomeing wba champion. Your thoughts on ellis?

Jimmy Ellis became a very good heavyweight. Not a great one, but certainly very good. Good speed, good skills, and underrated power. It took a top fighter to beat him. However his win over Patterson is one of the worst decisions in heavyweight title fight history.

His move up was an accomplishment. But his biggest weakness at heavy was his size.

His speed helped him at heavyweight, he wasn't particularly quick for a middleweight but when he moved up he brought his speed with him and he used it effectively. And the effects of not having to make 160 helped him as well, he was very stringy at middleweight. Still it was quite impressive that he managed to be successful at heavyweight considering everything.

He was too skinny at middleweight, lacking power and strength. When Dundee told him to put on weight, Ellis became a much better fighter. He was very dangerous in the early rounds, but would fade in the later rounds. A fine counter-puncher who could take a punch.
