seems like it is the case here

I was surprised actually when I watched this, because I didn't know what kind of personnality he had outside the ring

I did know that prior to fighting Marciano, he said Marciano would be an easy fight, that Marciano didn't have skills or something like that, so I didn't know whether he was a trash talker or what else

Jersey joe Walcott was a trash talker most of the times...this is an exception. After the Joe Louis 1st fight he said that he could do whatever he wished to with Joe and could make him fall to every trick he has. After the second he said that he was doen in because the ref asked him to step up the fight. Against Marciano well you know...whatever.

'Trash talker' is probably a bit harsh. Floyd Mayweather and Roberto Duran were proper trash talkers. Walcott was colourful, a bit like Archie Moore. He did say words to the effect that Marciano had little boxing skills (compared to Walcott he probably did......but made up for it with chin, conditioning, power and tenacity!).

As for Joe Louis, he did pretty much fall for all Walcott's tricks.

But Walcott was respectful in defeat, a real sportsman.

Please find a qoute where you found Walcott respectful in defeat or humble in a win except this. But yes trash talker is a bit fo harsh word for him. Walcott often failed to back up what he said though unlike Duran most of the time. Well after getting beat he said a lot of rubbish in 1st Louis fight and after boasting like that he got knocked out...cool huh? Or was it very dignified that he complained with all his worth after the second Marciano fight? Never mind I know Walcott was your favourite, but there were traits in him that was not exactly superb.

He said after losing to Marciano that he was like 'a human tank'. I'd have taken it as a compliment if I were the Rock. Hee hee. I dont think he put up much of a moan when losing two decisions to Ezzard Charles. But I do understand Walcott's churlish nature after Louis 1, even one of Louis's favorite refs Ruby Goldstein called it for Walcott.

Granted Duran is more of an ATG than Walcott and certainly backed up many boasts, but the things he said to some of his opponents were disgusting......that is real trash talking! I quite enjoyed it, but it wasn't classy.

I guess we can agree that Walcott wasn't a trash talker, he just called it as he saw/felt it as you exposed

Here's some of his classics :-

On Marciano being compared to Dempsey
''How silly can they get? He shound't be spoken in the same breath with Dempsey''

''Marciano is a amateur, He woundn't have qualified for Joe Louis's bum of the month tour'' I'll knock him out''--Nice touch this...

On Leading up to the fight
                  ''I feel good''--Cool

"If I don't beat Marciano take my name out of the record book."
"I can beat him every time. I can trick him into any move I want to make. I’d like to fight him again tomorrow or any time."--After Joe Louis 1st fight.

He did give a lot of excuses which are not classy too. Here is so much for sportsmanship after losing the second.

“I thought I had Louis. Then the referee kept telling me to come out and fight. He didn’t tell Louis ?just me. It got me confused. I changed my style of fighting and this happened. I only remember that first punch ?a right to the head. They say he hit me some more ?I don’t remember.?

Walcott also was kind enough to let the Ring ****zine know that he was worried that working men with family would gamble their grocery money by betting on the Rock..

After getting KOd in 1 by the Rock in their second fight Walcott did again just...well complain

Theres a few there that I've not heard before and a few that made me chuckle. They weren't all that bad, comparing the then contender Marciano to the legend Dempsey was probably a bit far at that point in his career.

Nothing trashy really, more just banter.
