Archie Moore scored more knock outs than any other fighter and was a brilliantly skilled fighter, i would favor him to KO Carnera

Moore had the experience and the punching power to beat Carnera despite his lack of size compared to Primo. Fighting bigger opponents didn't bother him much, as evident by his knockouts over 6'2, 210 lb Bob Baker, 6'3, 210 lb Nino Valdes, 6'3, 210 lb James J. Parker, 6'6, 235 lb George Parmentier, 6'4, 210 lb Alejandro Lavorante, 6'4, 225 lb Abel Cestac, 210 lb Embrell Davidson, 6'4, 210 lb Leonard Dugan and numerous other big men of the era. Carnera would have even more of a size advantage however to the point of ridiculous proportions at 6'5, 260 lbs compared to the 5'11, 180-190 pound Archie Moore.
Size disadvantage did not stop Jack Sharkey from taking Carnera to school in their first bout, but all his skill and experience didn't help him from getting knocked out in the rematch against an improved Primo. Personally I think Sharkey had declined by the time of their rematch, and would have won in their primes. Archie would be similarly elusive with upperbody movements and a master counter-puncher as Sharkey was.
To see an example on how this match-up would possibly unfold, see Moore vs Nino Valdes:
Another example though is Carnera using his size advantage to beat a far better boxer in Tommy Loughran. But Moore could hit, Tommy could not. I think Moore uses his skill to fight his way to a close decision over the much bigger but less experienced man. Moore is not in the Louis or Baer class of heavyweight hitters, which it took to stop a prime Carnera. Even if Primo went down, he would keep getting up and clinch with his great size to stay out of trouble. Without a broken ankle, he may have very well lasted the distance even against Max.
I guess one scenario that should be taken into account is Carnera's great size tiring out Moore who wasn't the most mobile of boxers around the 1950's.Last edited by TheGreatA; 09-04-2010, 04:16 AM.

Maybe I do underrate Carnera, but I think if it had been the champion version of Carnera that Moore fought instead of Marciano, he'd have about 80% chance of being heavyweight champion of the world.

2 things that cannot be ignored.
1) Archie Moore never beat a Heavyweight on Primo's level.
2) Primo beat better Heavyweights than Archie Moore.
Eddie Chambers dominated Dimitrenko, got destroyed by Wlad. Size wasn't the problem for Eddie. It was size + class.
