    Iran "The Blade" Barkley

Thoughts on him as a fighter?

Having recently watched his incredible war with Robbie Sims,I've come to the conslusion that it's the single greatest fight that I've ever watched

Any other fights of his that stick out in your mind?

Any man who could take the wood chopping to the body Hearns was putting on him is a tough man. Decent fighter, but his durability is what won him titles.

Took those vicious hooks for twelve rounds against Hearns in their very underrated rematch too.

The fights of his that I've watched have generally been very good fights to watch.Shame that his fight with Nigel Benn was stopped on the silly three knockdown rule - very entertaining while it lasted, and when considering the history of both men and the level of excitement that they brought, could have been one of the best fights of recent memory.

His fight with Duran of course! One of the greatest fights EVER! What a war! Iran was a true warrior, a badass.

...and yet there wasn't actually three knock downs in it. I have said it before and I'll say it again now, but that fight was a ****ing disgrace to the sport of boxing.

Barkley gets hit a number of times, while down and they are blatant rabbit punches, while he's down mind you, then the 'third' knock down (which actually isn't a KD) gets ruled properly a slip and yet the ref just stops it out of nowhere on the three KD rule when he had ruled it not a KD.

Padilla....****. Gave in to pressure from the sidelines. The most frustrating thing is that Barkley always got up, Benn gassed badly and it was going to end up one of the greatest wars of all time with Barkley winning a stunner late over an exhausted Benn. Guaranteed.

Anyway, I love Barkley. I think he was great and much under-appreciated. Obviously his skills weren't great and yet they were somewhat overlooked. He had a great jab, good combinations but he would let it all go in some fights and then fight brilliantly in others.

Nonetheless, at a time when very few in the sport had won three titles in different divisions, and then only the greatest, he was one of them.

I think people forget that. He was a three weight world champion with a minor title win over former heavyweight champion Gerry Coetzee at his fifth division. That's pretty darn special for a fighter with no skills supposedly.

Well, whatever he was, the fact is that he gave us many of the great fights of the eighties/nineties. A true warrior.

Edit: His pre fight pacing and stare down in the most vicious I've ever seen in a ring. Scary dude.

iran was a good fighter and faired well against some pretty good fighters,i think iran clearly beat duran and got robbed in perhaps one of the worst decisions in boxing history when duran got the decision

Just watched it again and the third knockdown seemed legit to me.He was definately stunned with a right hand and this caused him to lose his footing.

Barkley wouldn't have survived more than 3 rounds with Benn.
