who had better handspeed- Tyson or Ali?

I've seen Tyson throw 5 punches in or around the 1 second mark, yet Ali's were pretty swift and nimble as well. Who was quicker?

Don't think Tyson threw faster power shots than that

The archetypal example always given of Ali's hand speed. To in contrast provide the example always given of Tyson:

Ali didn't really load up on his punches. They were smooth, generated with natural body movement. Tyson loaded his punches to the max. punch for punch, they were much harder than Ali's. That reduces speed overall.

More appropriate comparison would be Tyson to Patterson, as they were trained to fight the same way. Patterson had faster hands, but was also much smaller and less powerful.

silly post.......comparing Ali's speed in an actual fight to Mike Tyson shadow boxing is ******

The question was who has better handspeed. Not who loaded more power, who had more power in their combos. Ali had better handspeed and that's including his power punches.

An interesting point to note is that footage in those days buffered a lot slower, and so imagine if this was captured with todays cameras! ali was fast as lightning.

Also Tyson "arched" his punches alot in the shadow-boxing video.

You just go out of your way to be obnoxious don't you? You immediately reverted to a single instance everyone points to of Ali throwing a fast flurry (just like they always point to Terell to illustrate his defense). Why don't you try being original and actually give some useful evidence? I was simply providing the parallel example that Tyson fans tend to point to, and despite your criticism of it being shadowboxing, he is throwing the punches with fight intensity. Personally I think Ali was probably faster which should be no surprise given his style - he threw 90% straight punches and stayed on his toes, not loading up on shots.
