I wasn't watching boxing back then and I was young but for some who were, how big was it in terms of publicity?

By the standards back then it was a huge fight. I remember people had been talking about that fight for a few years before it actually took place.
I believe if they had the same type of promotion like there is now with the 24/7 and everything else that fight would still be the standard for big fights under the heavyweight division. It would of easily beaten Mayweather/Delahoya in terms of money and ppv buys.

All this is based on the reaction by NY sports fans and NY papers. It could / would be different elsewhere.

It was a huge fight and highly controversial and is known as grade A Las Vegas robbery, as it was clear to everybody that Oscar had won the fight.
DLH already had the Decision by the 10th round but miraculously Tito won. I can still remember Tito crying like a baby girl and when he heard his name, the look of shock on his face was worse than the look of shock on mine, as I'm sure he and his corner were aware he had clearly lost.
One of the worst decisions in fight history.
A historical fight for many reasons and the pre fight hype was comparable to that of any huge fight in history.

I was a ODLH fan before the fight but I've never warmed up to him since.
