Yea, damn good fighter Trinidad. I'd never rate him pound for pound best at any point but at his best (at welterweight) he would give any welterweight in history a good argument.

    I'd make him an ATG!

He was a very overrated fighter who needed illegally wrapped hands to become successful.

He received a boxing lesson from DLH, in the biggest fight of his career. Later on, when his illegal hand-wrap method was found out, he was given a savage beaten by Hopkins that ruined him.

The biggest fight he actually won clearly was the Whitaker fight. Keep in mind, however, that Whitaker was old, shot and a drug addict by that time. Even then, Whitaker managed to make Trinidad look ****** at times.

Vargas was definitely a better win than Whitaker.

And honestly it was only the way he wrapped his hands, not that he added something illegal. Most foreign fighters wrap their hands illegally to US standards. Mikkel Kessler recently had to re-wrap his hands for the Ward fight.

Most of the illegal wrapping is just a technicality, not something that makes punches that much more effective. His lost to Hopkins had nothing to do with his punches not being strong enough. It had everything to do with his inability to land them.

Anyways Trinidad is an ATG, but contrary to the first post, was never undisputed Champion. He wasn't even Ring Champion. He was lineal Welterweight Champion however, by "defeating" DLH, who got it from Whitaker, who's lineage traces all the way back to Donald Curry without interrupt.

I was talking about who was the best fighter he actually beat and that was Whitaker. You should look him up. Great fighter.

The way a fighter wraps his hands actually has a big effect on their performances. Trinidad's father/trainer admitted that, when they had to re-wrap his hands the normal way, it took a lot of Trinidad's usual punching power away.

Funny how his biggest fans always try to make an excuse for the hand-wrap controversy, when even his own father/trainer admitted that it had a big effect on his punching power.
